California Summer at Tennessee Valley

To me, "home for the summer" means trading the suffocating DC hot humidity for the oddly cold and cloudy Bay Area. The upside lies in these cool blue hues coming to light in Tennessee Valley. The beach is named not because it is in Tennessee (the ocean is the giveaway there), but because the SS Tennessee wrecked here over 150 years ago. The 500 passengers and 14 chests of gold were delivered safely to the beach, but unfortunately for us, they took all the gold with them.

Boots + Soots

Although outdoor guides clean up good, they cannot ditch the hiking boots.

Assateague Island: Land of vicious wild ponies + overcast April skies

The words 'rain' and 'clouds' are not often spoken in the same breath as 'beach camping', but alas they were during a recent weekend escape to Assateague Island in Maryland. We had fun nonetheless.
